Bona Via Bakery was established in 1985 by Nicola and Luisa Chiaravalloti. Originally from Rome where they owned a Bar on Via Cogoleto, they immigrated to Toronto in 1973. Once here they operated in a few different bakeries until finally opening their own place. A lot of hard work and sacrifices were made to make their dream a reality. The growth of the bakery has paralleled the growth of their family. You could say their children were raised at the bakery, and have always been part of the family business. Nicola is a member of the Pastry Chefs Guild and has been awarded the Collegium Cocorum Award for his 50 years of creative culinary contributions from the Association of Italian Chefs in Canada (AICC). His authentic Italian baked goods, breads and dishes have enriched the community with a real taste of Italy. Luisaís personal customer service and management of the bakery has been indispensable to the family business. His oldest daughter Barbara and her husband Carmine Accogli, a trained chef, have worked and learned at the bakery up until Carmine opened his own successful restaurant, The Big Ragu. His middle daughter Monja has shown impressive skills with cake artistry. She has expanded the cakes offered at Bona Via and now produces all the wedding and specialty cakes. Her work is both a pleasure to admire and a tasty treat to enjoy. Nicola and Luisa have been proud to provide a welcoming comfortable place for family and friends to enjoy the delights that the Italian culture has to share.
